This week, I coded a design I used to think was difficult, based off of its appearance. I was playing around with the blocks and when I ran the code, it looked similar to a design I saw a while ago from the TurtleStitch gallery.

I later played around with the code and I tried making new designs with it.

Original Design
For the two above designs, I altered the code by changing the repeats to 5 and 15, I added two extra "move 10 steps" blocks in the internal repeat and I changed the angles to 270 and 40 degrees.
Original code
For this, I altered the first repeat from 30 to 4, changed the angles from 15 to 18 and 90 to 180
For this, I changed the angle from 90 degrees to 180 degrees and it altered the distance from the center

Resizing and Adjusting a Pattern

When I was playing around with the different features on the Brother PE-770 embroidery machine, I learned it is possible to resize and adjust a pattern. Here are some things I found out: The pattern would have to fit the frame in order to be opened or altered There is a limit to how much a pattern can be resized Using the LAYOUT features can help determine where the pattern will go on the fabric Check out my slideshow below to learn how to resize and adjust a pattern, and feel free to ask me any questions! More sophisticated and creative patterns can be made by overlapping or duplicating the design with the features. It can also help with easier visualization of the size and location on the fabric. I can't wait to share future designs with these features, and I hope similar features can be found on different embroidery machines!

Cracking Down a Code #1

Today, I am looking and extracting a code on TurtleStitch so I could get a better understanding of what each block does to create a certain design. Original code I will go in order from top to bottom and explain the blocks: Figure 1 (max_stepsize=40) when (flag) clicked : this block is used to control the script so when you click on the green flag, the turtle will start stitching the code. go to x: 0 y: 0 : this block is used to direct the turtle to the center of the stage. set __ to __ : this block is used to set the chosen variable to a given value (string or number).       a)  max_stepsize is the spacing between the stitches so if it was set to 10, then it would look like the above image. If I changed it to 40, it would look like Figure 1.       b)  len  seems to be the size of the center of the design. Turtlestitch 2.5 - The Whizzy Needle

The new Turtlestitch "Whizzy Needle" site  has many new features, including the "Embroidery" and "Color" block categories. It has completely changed the way my designs look on the embroidery machine. The "Embroidery" section offers various stitch types, which sophisticates any pattern. I have tested all of the blocks, and I am most drawn to the satin stitch since a lot of my patterns are silhouettes, and I want to emphasize the shape of them. I love the texture of the tatami stitch; it is very smooth. The other stitch types are great for adding a unique look to a design. The blocks from the "Color" section do not affect the output colors on an embroidery machine. Although, I use it to help me choose the thread color. Connecting TurtleArt with TurtleStitch

This week, I studied variables and applied it to TurtleArt. I was able to look at a basic code from TurtleArt and from their code, I learned how to create a variable and define it. I wanted to create a box that was repeated while overlapping. I started by making my own block: From the "box" block, I wanted the distance to increase each time it is repeated, so I turned made distance a variable. This was how my new code looked like (below); it was a success! I was even able to alter it and make it rotate: This made me wonder, like the petal code (from previous blog post), how would I make the stitches smaller, while keeping the distance the same?
